One two-month journey around the Australian Coast has been cancelled in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly lady who was stranded by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the party for a pause. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back several hours later after the crew became aware the lady was not present.

An extensive search operation found her person the next day.

Authorities are looking into the event, together with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer announced that travelers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that guests would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also released an revised statement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Master" preventing any further travelers from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the vessel in Cairns upon its return.
